Dublin Bay Shawl

6.00

A great BEGINNER PATTERN, Dublin Bay features a simple-to-learn lace pattern that represents the waves in Dublin’s many waterways.
Did you know, the deepest part of Dublin’s main river, the Liffey, gave the city it’s name? “Dubh Linn”, means “dark pool” in Irish.

The wingspan of this shawl is 117cm / 46 inches.

Description

This pattern uses Tunisian crochet techniques and was designed to be made with a regular, short crochet hook.

Yarn used in sample:
Debbie Bliss Rialto 4-ply
(Merino – 14 wpi)
“Dove” – 4 balls (580 m)

Size:

Wingspan: 117cm / 46 inches
Hook: 5.5 mm (I Hook)

Construction:
Dublin Bay begins in the centre of the straight edge with a Magic Loop into which your first row of Tunisian Crochet is worked. Pulling the Magic Loop closed turns this row into a little semi-circle. The semi-circle then grows row upon row with regular increases.
The lace panels are worked similarly, with increases built into them to ensure your shawl stays curved and continues to grow.

As an added detail, the edge of your shawl is worked with a series of cheerful little picots which double as handles when it comes time to block.

This pattern comes with easy-to-follow charts and text instruction
