Macha

Macha is named after an irish goddess of sovereignty. She’s often said to be an aspect of The Morrigan. who I’ve also named a shawl after. It features a plait/braid that echoes the kind of knotwork found on much early Irish and Viking artwork.

The wingspan of this shawl is 165cm / 65 inches

Description

This pattern uses Tunisian crochet techniques and was designed to be made with a regular, short crochet hook.

Yarn used in sample:
Hedgehog Fibres Merino DK
(Merino 100%)
“Sage” – 5 skeins (900 m)

Wingspan: 165cm / 65 inches
Hook: 5.5 mm (I Hook)

Construction:
Macha has a curious construction.
You will start out by making the three serpentine strands of the plait/braid. These strands are then woven together, secured and then the body of the shawl is worked off the edge.

This pattern comes with easy-to-follow charts and text instruction.

I used my own homespun BFL to make this and went up a hook size because my yarn was a little thicker and I LOVE the result!

    Great pattern, great shawl!
