Morrigan Shawl

5.00

Panels of Tunisian-style crochet make up this simple-to-make shawl. Inspired by the Irish goddess of sovereignty and battles, you can wear it and face the world!

The wingspan of this shawl is 290 cm / 114 inches. It can also be worn wrapped around the body in a style once common in the wilds of Ireland’s West Coast (pictured).

Description

This pattern uses Tunisian crochet techniques and was designed to be made with a regular, short crochet hook.

Yarn used in sample:
Cushendale Woollen Mills Lace Weight
(Wool)
“Haw” – 4 balls (900 m)

Size:

Wingspan: 290 cm / 114 inches
Hook: 6 mm (J Hook)

Construction:
Morrigan is worked up using rows of short Tunisian crochet “simple stitches” that are layered one on top of the other to build up the fabric.
The body of the shawl is made using three panels of Tunisian crochet, each one built on the top of the previous one. Once these panels are complete, the lace edge is worked around the fabric in one continuous panel.

– Morrigan is size adaptable –
If you’d like a wider or a narrower shawl, simply add or subtract one of the body panels and work the lace panel around the result as normal.

I have finished my Morrigan shawl and am very proud of the end result! It is a simple but very entertaining project and its construction is extremely interesting and the edge drafts are very beautiful. the instructions were very easy to follow, the graphic diagrams are my favorites and made the experience very pleasant. I dared to add some tassels on the side ends.
    Thank you!
