Penny Farthing
This design features on many neolithic stones around Ireland, but to me it is reminicent of the old Penny Farthing bicycle which had one large and one small wheel.
While Ireland didn’t have much significant history with this particular bike, it is named after two coins which we did have in abundance. The Penny was the large wheel an the farthing was the little wheel.
In a lovely example of continuity of use, the symbol on our Irish farthing coin – a woodcock bird – was reused on a more modern coin well into my own adulthood.
Fashioned out of quality stainless steel and strengthened in the traditional manner, these shawl pins are understated, easy to use and glide through shawl fabric gently.
They’re hand crafted, and finished with a granite texture to ensure the pin stays in place all day.
Your shawl pin will be shipped to you nestled in an organza gift bag in a hard-backed envelope.
As this is a hand-made product, some small variations exist, but every effort has been made to ensure it is as close to the photo as possible. Several examples are given in the photos to the left to show you the extent of the variation.
