Venus Shawl

Venus is named for Botticelli‘s “The Birth of Venus”. It makes a very good pattern for an adventurous beginner.
Use thinner yarn than recommended for an exquisitely lacy shawl.

It’s 210 cm wide (that’s 82.5 inches), and it is so, so easy to adapt it to make it bigger or smaller.

Description

This pattern was designed to be made with a regular, short crochet hook. No Tunisian-style/cabled hook is necessary.

Yarn used in sample:
Townhouse Yarns Fade St. 4-ply
(70% Merino; 30% Silk – 14 wpi)
“Sea Foam” – 3 skeins (900 m)
Wingspan:
210 cm / 82.5 inches (but it can easily be made much bigger by repeating the last three rows.)
Hook: 6 mm (J Hook)

Construction:
Venus is worked up using rows of short Tunisian crochet “simple stitches” that are layered one on top of the other to build up the fabric.
Short rows and traditional increasing techniques are used to create the fans that make up the majority of the fabric.

Videos to explain all the techniques used are included in the pattern PDF and can be found on Aoibhe’s Instagram IGTV channel here.

This pattern comes with easy-to-follow charts, text instruction and a series of helpful technique videos.

The pattern pdf will be available to download immediately after purchase. You will have the choice to select either a pdf using US crochet terms or UK crochet terms. You’ll also be emailed a download link.

  1. Summer

The Venus Shawl has been calling to me for years but I was intimidated. It’s time I sucked it up and took the plunge! (Pardon my Texas slang!) Your patterns are gorgeous and are standouts among all the other shawls out there…no offense to the other beauties out there…but your designs are totally unique!!!
